Via a statement posted on their official website, United say the move is about to be completed with only formalities such as personal conditions and a medical certificate.

Ronaldo cut his teeth on his first stint at Old Trafford, scoring 118 goals in 292 games before joining Real Madrid in 2009 as a modern-day Galactico. Since then he has truly achieved greatness, winning everything there is to win and breaking just about every performance record there is to breaking.
United’s huge announcement comes as the dramatic conclusion of a chaotic 24-hour period in which rivals Manchester City have reportedly made contact with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes for the first time to bring Ronaldo back to the Premier League.
Although nothing is official yet, several enthusiastic United players have appeared on social media to welcome Ronaldo home.

Bruno Fernandes went further by hinting that he had been instrumental in drawing his Portuguese teammate to United.
“Agent Bruno”? 😂

Former United colleague Patrice Evra also claimed to have had the scoop on Ronaldo’s lavish return, sharing a screenshot of an alleged Whatsapp conversation between the pair in which the latter revealed he would return in “our club”.

RB Leipzig also took credit for claiming Ronaldo swerved by signing for City at the last minute due to the draw for Pep Guardiola’s side in the League’s ‘death squad’ champions.
The moment @Cristiano changed his mind.

Meanwhile, there was also a chance to poke fun at United fans, many of whom had to quickly change their tone after working under the illusion that Ronaldo was about to join their city neighbors.
Manchester United fans’ timeline will look like a Frank Lampard press conference; “Cristiano Ronaldo is an absolute snake, he completely passed him, no but seriously it would be amazing to bring him back to Old Trafford”.

Of course, Gary Neville jumped at the chance to poke fun at former nemesis Jamie Carragher, who had previously led the rule of Ronaldo’s impending transfer to City.

And just to top it off, there was also fingers crossed for Ronaldo to revisit the infamously garish knits he wore the last time he signed for United, in 2003.
